Hometown Hero
Like many a Ghanaian in the diaspora, DUST Editor-at-Large - Eli Tetteh – made the annual pilgrimage home for Christmas, a time when Accra is known to be buzzing with activity, especially of the musical kind. Moved by m.anifest’s concert, he whipped out his pad and his pen... Allow me the say right off the bat: if you missed the M.anifest concert held 16th December, you missed a special moment in the timeline of Ghanaian music. The shamefully revered Ebo Taylor, the sultry Efya and headliner M.anifest, as well as a host of surprise guests, conspired to rock Alliance…

Azonto: the dance, the music & the mindset
“Bossu, we want start dance. When you go start play azonto...?” Some say azonto is a fad; a trend that came from nowhere and will go nowhere. Politicians use the word in the throwaway manner in which they used that other recent catchphrase, ‘sakawa’. Azonto remains – to many adults - a vaguely derogatory term that means “ugly” or “uncultured.” They just don’t get it. While it may seem so to the uninformed mind, Azonto did not emerge overnight. It has been in gestation for a very long time. Its Wikipedia entry has already become a needless battlefield over the…

Democracy or Death: the case for Gaddafi
Muammar Gaddafi is dead. It’s a fact most Africans are acutely aware of. Most would agree that no one is meant to rule forever. Even more would agree that, after 41 years in power, it was his time to go. Gaddafi’s time in office is the fourth longest non-royal reign in over a hundred years. So truly, the debate was never whether it was time for him to go. Or was it? Libya is quite an impressive country (at least it was before the recent Western invasion). Few know this but, just last year, Libya ranked 53rd (out of 170…

Girls are like apple on trees....
Girls are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. The boys don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they just get the rotten apples from the ground that aren't as good, but easy. So the apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality, they're amazing. They just have to wait for the right boy to come along, the one who's brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree. Source

Myths about the brain
As a result of the misinformation presented by various media, many people maintain misconceptions about the brain and brain function. The problem may be compounded by textbooks for middle school students that present little, if any, scientific information on the brain as the organ that controls human behavior. As a result, students may build their understanding of the brain on “fictions” rather than facts. The constructivist learning model holds that when students dispel their own misconceptions, they are more open to constructing a correct understanding of the subject. The following list of commonly held misconceptions about the brain, followed by…
